“I watched my mom's reaction to her own magazine over Skype”

I made my mom promise not to open the package before I could see her reaction on skype. She was very suspicious but laughed and promised me she would wait.
When she got the package in the mail she immediately messaged me on Facebook. “Pam, I got your package, I’ll wait to open it.”
I rushed home and got on Skype. I was extremely excited for her reaction, and I could tell she was very curious about what was in the package. “It does seem to be shaped like a magazine…” she said, smiling at me through the webcam. At this point I figured the surprise was ruined. She knows I work at Jilster and has figured out it’s a magazine for her 50th birthday.
What happened next suprised both of us
She opened the package, and the instant she saw the magazine a huge smile spread across her face. She looked at me and I could tell she wanted to say something, but couldn’t quite find the words. She started leafing through it and was laughing now. “Oh my God Pam… this... this is so COOL!”
“Oh and you put in all these trees and veggies too…, wow!” (Because she loves nature)
She continued looking through the pages. She saw some old pictures I couldn’t have added and asked if her sisters helped. I said yes, and she smiled quietly as she continued leafing through her magazine.
Then it got very quiet...
She laughed very loudly at a funny quote I had put in about her father (my grandpa). Then, at the end, she read all our special birthday wishes, and got very quiet…
Then she looked up at me and I could see tears in her eyes. “Thank you honey. Thank you so, so much. I think this is the best gift anyone has ever given me in my life.”
I smiled. “You’re welcome mom, you deserve it.”
Over the course of the next few days she continued sending me happy messages over Facebook about the magazine. Everytime she would come across something she missed the times before, she would let me know. It’s something she will continue doing for a long while I imagine. :)
