We collect and use data for different purposes. Some information is necessary for us to be able to provide you with the products and services we offer. Examples include maintaining your account, producing and delivering your order, and answering your questions. We also process user data for marketing purposes and to improve our services. For example, we look at which browsers are used most and which website pages are popular.
Your data: how it’s collected, why we’re collecting it, and how we put that data to use.
When you create an account, we store your name and e-mail address along with the files that you upload into your magazine. This is necessary so that you can continue working on your magazine the next time you log in.
While working on your magazine, you can upload personal texts and photos. You can share the magazine online with others or have it printed. We do not use the texts and photographs for other purposes. A new magazine’s default expiration date is 1 year from the date you created it. You can adjust this expiration date yourself at any time. You can also delete the magazine yourself at any time.
Placing an order
The moment you decide to place an order, we ask for your address details and your telephone number. We use this to process your order and to inform you about your order. We only use the telephone number in cases when we need to contact you quickly. We also share the order details with other parties required for the process, such as the printing company, the payment provider and the postal service.
You can sign up for our newsletter with your e-mail address. We can then send you e-mails with tips, customer experiences and our latest news. We manage the mailing list ourselves. If you no longer wish to receive the newsletter, you can also simply unsubscribe by using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the e-mail.
We also use your e-mail address to send you service messages. You will receive an e-mail from us to confirm your account and three e-mails about the storage period of your magazine. We will send these e-mails three months before the expiration date of the magazine, one month before the removal date and after we have removed your magazine. It is also possible that we send an e-mail with necessary information about our service. For example, if we have adjusted our terms and conditions. It is not possible to unsubscribe from service messages.
If you have any questions or complaints, you can contact us via e-mail. We can request data such as your name or order number. We use these to help you properly.
After you have placed an order, we ask you to fill in what type of magazine you have made. For example as a gift or for school. You are not obliged to share this information with us. If you do share the information, we use it to better tailor our marketing and service. For example, if we find that many wedding magazines are made, we can add more specific templates for weddings.
Editor-in-chief and editors
Jilster enables you to collaborate with other people. This has consequences. The person who starts the magazine is the editor-in-chief and is responsible for the content of the magazine. The editor-in-chief can invite editors to fill one or more pages, order the magazine, create a link to the online version of the magazine and / or delete the magazine. The editor-in-chief can also make an editor co-editor-in-chief. A co-editor-in-chief can do anything that a editor-in-chief can do except delete the magazine.
When you, as editor-in-chief, invite others to work on your magazine, they can also view all the uploaded photos. It is therefore important that when you upload photos, you realize that everyone from your ‘editorial team’ can view these photos. The editor-in-chief can choose whether the editors can only view their own page or all pages.
An editor who contributes to a magazine must be aware that they also place the responsibility for the content in the hands of the editor-in-chief. While working on the magazine, the editor can adjust the content of the page or delete photos or texts. After the page has been submitted, the editor can ask the editor-in-chief to release the page so that adjustments can be made if required. If there are any questions or problems, you can always contact customer service.
On our website we use 2 different types of cookies: functional and analytical cookies. We do not place tracking cookies. The functional cookies are necessary for the proper functioning of the website. For example, they ensure that someone in the Netherlands sees the Dutch website and someone in Germany the German website. In addition, we use analytical cookies. For example, we analyze the number of visitors on our website, what the popular pages are and which pages we need to improve.
Our website has buttons that enable visitors to share blog posts and/or their magazine(s) on social media platforms, like Facebook or Pinterest. These buttons only interact with the social media platforms when you click them. This means that it is up to each of the social media platforms to make sure they are GDPR compliant when you share information from our website to these social media platforms. We do not send any information to these social media platforms without your express knowledge and permission.
We share some personal data with third parties, like the printer, payment system company, and delivery service company. We only do this when this is strictly necessary for, for example, the processing of the order. We expect the companies with whom we share information to treat your information as carefully as we do. That is why we have concluded a processor agreement with all these companies, which states that they handle the data according to our standards.
As a user you have different rights that are legally established:
- Right of access: all the personal data we have about you (such as account details, orders, magazines) is visible in your account
- Right to rectification and supplement: you can change or supplement your personal details under your account. You can adjust the contents of the magazine yourself. As an editor, you first consult with your editor-in-chief.
- Right to data portability: in certain situations you can ask us to forward the personal data we have about you to a third party.
- Right to disregard: as editor-in-chief you can remove your magazine yourself and ask us to delete your account. As an editor, you can ask your editor-in-chief to remove your contribution or give you access to the magazine again so that you can do this yourself. You can also ask us to delete your account.
- Right to limitation of processing: in certain situations you can ask us for a limited use of your data.
- Right to object to data processing: if we process your data on the basis of a general or legitimate interest you can object to this.
- Right with regard to automated decision-making and profiling: we always have a human eye on decisions and do not use profiling.
If you have a question about one of the above privacy rights, you can contact us by sending an e-mail to email@example.com. We will then respond in any case within 30 days.
We think it is important to protect your personal data properly. We are aware that some magazines may contain a lot of personal information. Our website is secured and we have an SSL certificate. We also ensure that the software we use is up-to-date. We will never share your magazine without your knowledge. However, the editor-in-chief is able to share the magazine online. This is the choice and responsibility of the editor-in-chief. If you do not want this as an editor, you can discuss this with your own editor-in-chief. If there are problems, you can contact us via customer service. We will never just look into your magazine. We only do this if there is a question or reason for it. If, however, we receive indications of data or content whose use may be punishable or possibly associated with a (suspected) committed offense, we expressly reserve the right to make a declaration and/or report this to competent authorities.
If you have ordered a magazine, we keep the invoice data for 7 years for our financial administration. We store the contents of a magazine 1 year after the creation date. This expiration date can always be edited and renewed online by the editor-in-chief. The editor-in-chief can also delete the magazine at any time. The magazine will then be permanently deleted. If you have worked on a magazine as an editor or as a co-editor-in-chief, you can ask the relevant editor-in-chief to remove your contribution (page) or the entire magazine. It is also possible to ask us to delete your account.
Authority Personal Data
We are happy to work with you to find a good solution in the event of a problem with the processing of your personal data. However, if you feel that we can not help you with this properly, then you have the right to file a complaint with the privacy guard, the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
